Our Team

One Earth is partnering with the District of Saanich and Bioregional on a new global ‘One Planet Cities’ project, funded by the KR Foundation. Cora Hallsworth is the local lead on the project. We are working together with a great team of volunteer Integrators and stakeholders (businesses, schools and community organizations) on One Planet Living in Saanich!

One Planet Integrators

This is our team of integrators, who are trained in the One Planet Living Framework. They are working with a cohort of Saanich-based schools, businesses and community organizations to develop One Planet Action Plans over the coming year. So far, these include: the District of Saanich, Haliburton Farm, Uptown Shopping Centre, Claremont Secondary School, Mount Douglas Secondary School, Reynolds Secondary School, Camosun College, Bumblebee Electric, and BEESPOT Neighbourhoods Inc. - read more about them here.
BRAD KYNOCH

​
Brad is an exceptional communicator, collaborator, and analyst with a passion for incremental and disruptive progress. Beyond his 10 years in technology development, he has 8 years of consulting in energy efficiency, clean energy, greenhouse gas impacts, and overall sustainability, plus hundreds of volunteer hours in sustainability and education. He has a degree in Engineering Physics, a certificate in Environmental Management, and informal training in green buildings and small-scale renewable energy.

CARLA MONTEIRO

Carla is currently a student at Camosun College taking a post-degree diploma in Business Administration and works in the Camosun’s Farmers Market project. She holds a Masters of Social History and had a career as an educator in museums of history and art and as an editor specialized in art and humanities textbooks. Carla will represent the Camosun College at the 2018 Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education (AASHE) Conference & Student Summit in Pittsburg, PA, USA

ELERI DAVIES

Eleri has been worked in the environmental and sustainability industry for the past six years, where she has developed sustainability performance and community engagement projects for small businesses, First Nations Health Authorities, and municipalities. She is currently completing her Masters of Science in Sustainable Development with a focus on economics through the University of London.

ELMARIE ROBERTS

Elmarie has been practicing small scale certified organic farming since 2006.  She is an instructor for the Royal Roads Green Learning Ecofarm courses and Gaia College Growing Food Victoria course. Today, she is honoured to be one with the land alongside 6 other independent farming businesses on a 7-acre District of Saanich farm, called Haliburton Community Organic Farm.

Enrico holds a BSc and an MBA and is co-leading the BEESPOT stakeholder action plan.

GERRY GAYDOS

Gerry has a professional background in industrial design and graphic design and has specialized knowledge in the areas of automotive and solar energy technologies. He is currently launching a social enterprise (Community Contribution Company) in BC to accelerate the widespread adoption of zero-emission electric vehicles and solar energy: Bumblebee Electric Vehicles and Solar Energy CCC Inc. Gerry has a passion for facilitating moments of discovery for others as they move towards post-carbon living.

ISAIAH JURKUCH

Isaiah is currently enrolled at Camosun College pursuing a diploma in Environmental Technology. He was elected to the position of Sustainability Director with the Camosun College Student Society and works collectively with the College Sustainability Council to advance projects and programs that reduce the environmental footprint and create a better environment at the college.

KIM KENDALL

Kim Kendall, PhD, was a professional psychologist for 25 years with a private practice in Seattle. She is currently a graduate student at the University of Victoria doing a master’s project looking at individuals with low carbon livelihoods/occupations to understand what motivates and sustains their commitment to working and living in a frugal low carbon manner.

LARISSA STENDIE

​Larissa holds a Masters Sustainability from the University of Oslo and IAP2 certification. After working internationally on community development and environmental justice for almost a decade, she returned to Canada to work with Sierra Club BC, Parkland Institute, and BCSEA. Presently she's a consultant with Cleantech Community Gateway and Resilience Environmental Solutions, working on projects with several First Nations related to affordable net-zero housing, comprehensive community planning, and renewable energy installations.

MARK NEUFELD

Mark Neufeld comes from seven generations of teachers and has been an educator for 27 years. He is one of the founders of the Institute for Global Solutions at Claremont (IGS). The IGS program engages students enabling students to take on the most pressing problems facing our world today while equipping them with the skills they require, through community partnerships, to create solution-based initiatives within their communities and abroad. Mark was honoured by the “Teachers Matter 2012” award where he was voted one of top ten most inspirational teachers in Canada.  He gets his inspiration from his students, his wife and sons, as well as the many colleagues, community members and friends he has worked with in Canada, El Salvador, the Sto:lo Nation and in Uganda over the last 30 years. Mark completed his M.Sc. Interdisciplinary degree at UVic and Royal Roads.

NATALINO (NINO) BARBON

Nino has 20 years of experience in distribution and 10 years in consulting with various businesses regarding distribution technology and strategic business planning. Over the past year he has dedicated his efforts to BEESPOT Neighbourhoods INC. whose mission is to “Build compact & green net zero passive house neighbourhoods that harness renewable energy and conserve resources while protecting our future generations with a sustainable lifestyle.”

NICOLE GOLDRING

Nicole is currently a Master’s student at the University of Victoria studying Public Administration. She has recently completed a co-op term at Environment and Climate Change Canada where she worked as a Policy Analyst in the Strategic Policy Branch. She has previously worked with environmental non-profits including The Riverwood Conservancy and Fraser Basin Council and has been on the Board of Directors of the University of Victoria Sustainability Project.

Sarah holds a bachelor’s degree in Environmental Studies from the University of Victoria. She is currently a Guest Services Representative with Uptown, a shopping center that is dedicated to ensuring a sustainable environment for their patrons.

STACEY O'SULLIVAN

Stacey is an Environmental Coordinator with North American Tungsten Corporation Ltd. and holds a degree in Environmental Science from the University of Waterloo. She ensures her employers comply with environmental regulations through environmental monitoring, sampling, and reporting. Stacey would like to take One Planet principles beyond personal lifestyle changes and into her professional experience by helping an organization to not just meet expectations but exceed them, and dramatically improve their sustainability.

STEPHANIE RATHWELL

Stephanie holds a BA in Economics and Environmental Studies from the University of Victoria. She is experienced in project management, fundraising, event planning, community engagement, public speaking and workshop facilitation. She is actively involved with a variety of non-profit initiatives ranging from green building, to urban design and sustainable development. Currently, Stephanie works in business development in the architecture industry and is an Associate with Resilience Environmental Solutions, a Victoria based consultancy.

TOM HACKNEY

Tom is Policy Advisor for the BC Sustainable Energy Association. For the past dozen years, he has led BCSEA’s interventions into Utilities Commission reviews of the energy plans of BC Hydro and other BC energy utilities. He leads BCSEA’s 100% Renewable Energy by 2050 initiative, supporting communities to switch to renewable energy.

Resource People

ROSEMARY (ROSIE) COOPER

Rosemary is a planning professional with over 20 years experience advancing sustainability by emphasizing collaboration amongst government, business and community.  She coauthored the 2015 Local Governments and the Sharing Economy Roadmap and teaches in BCIT’s Sustainable Business Leadership program.  Her Masters degree at York University explored the integration of economic development and sustainable community planning. She is a Senior Associate with One Earth.

RYAN MACKIE

Ryan Mackie is a Sustainability Technical Specialist with Cora Hallsworth Consulting. He has over 15 years of experience developing technology and working with organizations on sustainable solutions. Ryan has a strong background in renewable technologies, mathematical modeling, research and analysis. He has been providing technical expertise to research projects as a consultant for the past four years. Prior to consulting, Ryan worked as an Engineer with Ballard Power Systems for ten years. Ryan also collaborated on long term projects with the Institute for Integrated Energy Systems at the University of Victoria and the ESI Group, a global leader in computational analysis.
TED SHELDON

In his 27 years with the Government of the Province of British Columbia, Ted has been a Ministry of Environment Program Evaluator and Corporate Policy Advisor, chair of Treasury Board's Performance Management Round Table, a longstanding Senior Community Climate Action Advisor for the BC Climate Action Secretariat and, most recently, an Alternative Energy Advisor with the BC Ministry of Energy and Mines.

TREVOR HANCOCK

Dr. Trevor Hancock is a public health physician and health promotion consultant and recently retired from his position as Professor and Senior Scholar at the School of Public Health and Social Policy at the University of Victoria. He is one of the founders of the (now global) Healthy Cities and Communities movement and originated the term 'healthy public policy'. Over the past 30 years he has worked as a consultant for local communities, governments, health care organizations, NGOs and the World Health Organization. His current focus is on the intersection of global ecological change (the Anthropocene) and health at the local level - One Planet communities. ​

CORA HALLSWORTH

Cora is a sustainability consultant that helps her clients to advance community and organizational sustainability. She has worked on award winning plans and has been contracted and appointed to advise on community and corporate sustainability initiatives. Cora’s clients value her deep knowledge and experience in a broad spectrum of environmental and sustainability issues. She is a Senior Associate with One Earth.

DAGMAR TIMMER

Dagmar is the Managing Director – Strategic Initiatives of One Earth, a non-profit "think and do" tank she co-founded in Vancouver. One Earth collaborates with partners to highlight the links between who we are, what we buy, where we live, what we make, what we trade, and how we live together. She has been actively involved in sustainability policy, research, and action for nearly two decades, and has extensive international experience. Dagmar also co-hosts the award-winning TV show Metro Vancouver Close Up, which profiles local environmental, social, and economic stories.

GLENYS VERHULST

Glenys is a Sustainability Planner with the District of Saanich. Previously, she worked at City Green Solutions, an enterprising non-profit specializing in energy efficiency in buildings. She has managed energy saving programs including the Oil to Heat Pump Incentive Program, and has experience with renewable energy, building science, efficient HVAC systems, residential energy modelling programs, rebates, and educational and promotional campaigns. Glenys has a BA in Geography, Environmental Studies, and English from the University of Victoria.

MAJONNE FROST

Majonne is the Programme Manager (Sustainable Business) at Bioregional. She works on a variety of sustainability projects with both private and public sector partners including B&Q, Kingfisher Group, John Lewis and Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park. Areas that Majonne has particular expertise in include sustainability strategy, sustainability reporting, carbon footprinting, sustainability data verification and analysis and supply chain engagement. Majonne holds a BA in Communications (Fontys University, The Netherlands). Prior to joining Bioregional in 2008, Majonne headed up the business team at Emmaus South Lambeth, a successful furniture, electrical and household goods reuse business.

MARINA GOODYEAR

Marina supports Bioregional’s corporate advisory team on sustainability reporting and eco-product research, as well as getting involved with our sustainable places work. Prior to joining Bioregional, Marina worked on putting together a large-scale, GCRF-funded research proposal on urban inequalities for her alma mater UCL. She was also involved in a project which assessed the livelihoods programs of an international volunteering organisation. In September 2016, Marina gained a distinction in her MSc in Environment & Sustainable Development at the Development Planning Unit of UCL. This included a thesis which explored the role of urban agriculture in creating cleaner and more just cities. She also holds a BA (Hons) in International Relations and German from the University of Leeds.

POORAN DESAI

Pooran co-founded BioRegional in 1994, with Sue Riddlestone, his wife. In 1998, he drew together the partnership to construct Beddington Zero (fossil) Energy Development (BedZED), the UK’s foremost eco-village development where he lives and works. He is now International Director of Bioregional’s One Planet Communities programme working on projects in the UK, Europe, North America, Africa, Australia, Middle East and China. In 2002, Pooran coined the term ‘One Planet Living’® and since then he has led teams creating sustainability action plans for over $30 billion of mixed-use projects in Europe, North America, Middle East, China and Australia.

REBECCA NEWLOVE

Rebecca is the Manager of Sustainability at the District of Saanich. She has twelve years of experience in sustainability and planning in both the UK and Canada.  This includes such projects as zero carbon housing-led regeneration, Food System Assessments, City Sustainability Strategies, regional transit plans and Environmental Impact Assessments for major wind farm developments.

VANESSA TIMMER

Vanessa is a social entrepreneur dedicated to positively transforming human and ecological relationships. She weaves together sustainability and systems thinking, and believes that envisioning positive futures is a powerful draw for social change. She is a Senior Research Fellow at Utrecht University and sits on the Multi-stakeholder Advisory Committee for the United Nations 10YFP Sustainable Lifestyles Programme. In Canada, she is a Board member of the National Zero Waste Council and on the Technical Advisory Committee for the Circular Economy Innovation Lab. Vanessa holds graduate degrees from Oxford and the University of British Columbia. She is the recipient of the 2018 YWCA Women of Distinction award in the Environment category.
